With the recent, devastating news from New York City of the two police officers randomly gunned down as they sat peacefully in their patrol car, on duty and days before Christmas, it’s hard to imagine the grieving their families will be enduring this holiday season when we embrace family and friendships.
For families — the world over — who just had loved ones pulled from their arms, the joyous celebrations of this season will become hollow and peace will be snatched from their lives for an unending period of time.
For them, it is heart breaking to imagine that what once was to-be is now gone …. and only memories remain as shadowy images in their minds.
Some people simply turn off the news and insulate. You cannot but be saddened by what you see around the world.
Pray for Peace
I have no wisdom to offer. I pray for peace and the consolation of love. I look to my heavenly Father, who formed the world and all that is in it for us to enjoy and am further dismayed that some choose to destroy rather than to celebrate, knowing we were created in His image and are urged to be Holy as He is Holy and to seek peace and reconciliation.
For those of us who celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace and for those who are searching for peace, may we count our blessings, hold tightly those we love, and stretch out our hand to others.
We are grateful as ever in our lifetime for those who work to protect us in law enforcement and by military service, around the world, as the war between good and evil wages until the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We offer our thanks to those who stand steadfast, not only in the sight of danger, but under the oppression of leaders who rather than encourage bravery and justice, incite violence and unrest and pit one against the other so that people who protect are put in the position of protecting people who are at war amongst themselves.
Sending wishes for peace and happiness to all in whatever season you find yourselves, in joy or in sorrow, for God has set eternity in the human heart. Fortunate and blessed are those who are happy and do good (Ecclesiastes 3:12).
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 NIV
